The figure of Christ is arresting, the stern judge casting sinners into into hell. That is not a Jesus who appeals to some Catholics, I think. Interesting generalization. I thought the stereotype was Catholics holding hell out to its adherents as a warning not to sin.
In other words, where are you coming from with this particular assertion? If you know some Catholics who you perceive to be as you say, please refrain from characterizing all as you describe.
A little test. How often do you heard a Catholic priest talk about the subject of hell? Or purgatory for that matter? Or voice some cautionary note at a funeral? Since Teilhard came on the scene, universalism has been part of the liberal agenda.
