a catholic who attends MAss will read and study the entire bible every three years.

Are you trying to tell me that MOST (Operative word) Catholics actually even follow along in the dried and true order of worship? I have yet to see a bible in the pews of a Catholic Church. The scriptures may be written in the bulletin, but rearely followed. You are truly an exception to the rule when it comes to Catholics and I truely commend you for your faith (no sarcasm present). It is not just the Catholic chuches that have that problem, it is all of the protestant churches I have ever been to as well.

You make my point for me!

All religions have lax adherents who don't seem to take it very seriously.

What is more, I see here at FR many "bible christians" who know NOTHING about passages that strongly support Catholic doctrine, yet they have 100 verses set to memory and quote them here and there and then claim to have superior knowldege of the bible.

Their claim is both untrue and a prideful sin.

What are you talking about? And how offensive can you be?

The scriptures are not merely "written in the bulletin", they are read during the Mass and written in the missil.

As to your statement that the scriptures are rarerly followed and that the poster is an exception, that is breathtakingly rude and ignorant.

Let me add: There are two readings during Mass plus a reading from the Gospel, during which the congregation stands.

Faith comes by hearing, hearing the Word of God. The 'in name only types' may not follow, but those truly devoted to Christ will. The lukewarm can sit the fence all day, but to those of us who love Him, it's nourishment for the heart and soul. Of course you're correct, the problem sweeps over all denominations. If every "Christian" in this nation practiced what they preached, we wouldn't be in the decline we're in today. Perhaps this film will knock some of the fence-sitters back into love with Him.

It's happening.

(sorry, not another "line" from another Gibson movie, lol)

Our parish is doing scripture meetings weekly over the summer for people to attend. Our first meeting last week drew quite a number of people on a week day night, when most are out on vacation.

Our pews have "missalettes" where the weekely readings and scripture passages are found. I look around, and many are reading them along with the pastor (for The Gospel) or lector, as the Word of The Lord is read. I prefer to close my eyes and listen to The Proclamation.

New (potential) Catholics, and many converts, at our parish anyway, get at least one hour of scripture sharing weekly. This is a key (and very important) component when they eventually give the nod in favor of joining the Catholic Church.

I am in the RCIA /OCIA (Rite, or Ordination and Initiation of Catholic Adults) program at our parish, and I look to three "cradle Catholic" friends of mine I Look to for scriptural reference, who are so well versed, it's wonderful. One of them participates weekly in scripture sharing with other Christians of other demominations.

Catholics really do read the Bible! :)
