Fear can be a great incentive. In this case, it is not necessary to invent a bogey creature, Herself already exists.
Just musing a bit, but does anybody recall how Herself became conscious of political activity? When Herself was but sixteen years of age, way before she reached the age to vote, she was a "Goldwater Girl", getting up as a junior cheerleader for Barry Goldwater in his ill-fated quest for the Presidency in 1964. Herself saw Barry get overwhelmed at the polls, and probably said, the way to the top is to join the people who kicked my idol's @$$. And not simply join, but to lead. Incidentally, Barry did not forget Herself and the earlier devotion to the Goldwater cause, and shortly before he died, endorsed the run of the Arkansaw Fellow Traveler in his quest for the White House, as a courtesy to Herself.
