FR "exclusive" - Henderson International Airport Tipped to Retain Name

Just returned from having my boots on the ground in the Solomon Islands. Bit of a working holiday of sorts had the best time imaginable, despite a fair bit of hard yakka.
While I was there I heard a little gem of some news from a primary source: According to the prime minister, the right honourable Sir Allan Kemakeza KBE, Henderson International Airport, formerly Henderson Airfield, and formerly planned to be known by some Japanese name thats been mostly erased from history by an assault by the US Marines and months of heavy fighting
will be retaining its present name.
As most of you should know, the Japanese have offered to refurbish the airport, on the condition that the name be changed to something that doesnt remind them of the fact that they abandoned it without a fight, and then through gross incompetence (and despite great deal of blind courage), couldnt recapture it, and perhaps also, that the locals of a British protectorate, were glad to be liberated; by soldiers of mostly European heritage.
I cant guarantee that this is the end of the matter, or that Sir Allan was giving true assurances this is after all, a nation of politicking, and a place where foreign aid talks, if a percentage can be skimmed from it. But it seems like a good start because there are other factors acting upon him. There seems to be a bit of local resentment towards the idea of a name change because people are sick of the corruption, and this would be such an obvious sell-out to yet another aid donor. And sir Allan has to play nice if he wants an Australasian bail-out there is nothing in it for him if he cant take a cut. Looks like for now the name is safe.
Cheers,
New Zealander.

BTW - returned to FR to find I'm not on the FR Foxhole ping list - any chance you could get me back on it?
To: New Zealander
Made in U.S., tested in Japan, mess with us, and we'll [rename the airport] again.

Hey ya mate - I'm back!
To: RaceBannon
Good news eh?
To: risk
Apparently they were asking for the name to be "Chrysanthemum airport", after the national flower...and I have to guess, the old jap flag - I'm told the rays of the rising sun were supposed to have a loose symbolism with the flower too.
If they want to step back in time like that for a few modifications, then perhaps they could have considered putting Chrysanthemum in Japanese, and underneath in English, "Flaming Red A$$hole airport" to remind us what they used to call the flag in the 40's... :)

Thanks for relaying the news.
My dad was a Seabee on Guadalcanal, helped rebuild the facility under fire.
He's no longer with us, but he'll appreciate the news, as well.

Good news, indeed- good as a box of birds! And I'll add you to the FRee Republic veterans ping list, and I expect Gunny G will do the same with his listing of those with a background favouring Uncle Sam's Misguided Children.
Watch for word, though, of the same sorts trying to pull something along these lines again; rot never rests....

Thank you for your effort. I am glad that the airfield is staying the same. I am so sick of people pissing on America because our intellectuals have told them to.
