So which carrier is the Reagan replacing? We're only allowed by law to have so many carriers in the fleet at one time. Seem's kind of silly to me to have to decom a perfectly good all be it an old one before we can bring Reagan into service.

We're only allowed by law . . . Is that because of a certain treaty we entered into with a no longer existent USSR? If so, it doesn't seem to apply anymore to me.

So which carrier is the Reagan replacing? The Constellation, which is now so tired that maintainance time is overwhelming her.

One of the carriers that served in the gulf was on it's last mission (of course I heard this on TV, so beware), can't remember which one, the one out of Everett, WA I think.

Something interesting from the
USS Constellation CV-64: History. The ship CVN 76 USS Ronald Reagan will replace
In the summer of 1981, Connie hosted President Ronald Reagan. It turned out to be a watershed moment in the carrier's illustrious history. Reagan presented a Presidential Flag to the ship and proclaimed Constellation as "America's Flagship" - a new ship's motto which is used to this day.

I believe it's the Connie...just finished it's final deployment in Iraqi Freedom. And Connie is a San Diego CVN.
