It may just be the angle of that first pic, but is the island somewhat further aft than previous Nimitz class carriers?

I was kind of wondering about that myself. This ship has a lot of designs that haven't gone into the other Nimitz class carriers. Maybe they decided that the island should be farther aft.

No, It isn't. You can see that like every previous Nimitz, the island is level with the port inboard catapult blast shield. They haven't changed the catapults, therefore the postion of the island is unchanged.

It's a artifact of the angle and wide angle camera lens.
