I think there's two things related to that. We have to make sure that people understand that coalition forces are going to be here until we have a safe and secure environment, and that the bottom line is Saddam Hussein or his sons will never take control of this country again.

The general's phraseology is interesting. He's speaking in the present tense, as if Saddam is still alive.

You can measure this military's honor and trustworthiness against this press. Simply go back and read the daily CENTCOM and DoD briefings and read the same day's press accounts. Then check the facts that came out in the following days and weeks.

What the press isn't reporting daily is even more revealing.  Check the CENTCOM logs, listen to the family members of those on the ground in Iraq, the Iraqi people....bloggers in Iraq.

The polls reflect what the people are being told, nothing more. The press is (still) misinforming the world about our efforts in Iraq, our honorable military and America.

Remember when the Palestinians danced in the street on 9-11? The mainstream international press, the EU, the DNC - were not happy for the Iraqi people on April 9th. They excused Saddam and accused America, or they insult our troops, our nation and our allies by giving the bad guys far more credit than they deserve. They still do.

Tales of Saddam's Brutality [lengthy, graphic, White House websight]

using civilians as human shields
military units dressed in civilian clothes
fake surrender ambushes
arming with chemical weapons
systematic rape and torture
execution and (possible) castration of POW's
forcing soldiers to fight under threat of death to their families
placing military targets in hospitals
using ambulances for military transport
suicide bombings
attacking their own population
gassing their own population
cutting off water to their own cities

vs.

possibly bombing a market by accident

Guess which draws more protest from the media, the UN and Amnesty International? Link

If they parroted the NY Times and Iraqi Info Ministry anti-American propaganda  with the embeds in Iraq to counter their lies, imagine what they're doing today?

You have to choose who to trust.

Facts are stubborn things...and character does count.
