Geez, at least they could have told us what the boys were riding. My guess would be Huyabusas, capable of approaching 200 mph. But not with me on it! The Brits are mad for their bikes.

Could be any bike these days. All modern super bikes have electronically limited speeds of 300kph, or 186mph. So, now the emphasis is on acceleration, not top speed.

at least they could have told us what the boys were riding. Most any late model (99-03) sport 750, or literbike can run over 160mph. Honda Fireblades (900/929RR) are very popular and capable of 170ish.
Otherwise, a big Suzuki GSXR or Yamaha YZF can make 150 in less time than it takes to read this sentence.
The REALLY fast bikes, Hayabusas, ZX11/12, and Blackbirds, are good for nearly 200mph with a little work.
Japanese sport bike producers agreed to a moratiorum on top speed a few years back, so most of the sport bikes today are limited to 180mph, although few can nudge that limit.

Huyabusas sounds about right. But I understand in the ER they call these 'donor' cycles.

Says James: This Black Lightning has a fine pedigree
On the Bonneville salt flats, in the hands of Rollie Free,
A factory model- not rebored, no tricks,
The speed always steady on one-forty-six,
They smashed through the land speed record that day
So I just had to have my own one, come what may
And you see, it's a matter of some pride,
That Vincent is the marque that I must ride.
1952 Vincent Black Lightning; Richasrd John Thompson.
