Motorcycle was clocked at 157mph, court told
By Stewart Payne (Filed: 18/06/2003)
A motorcyclist was recorded travelling at 157mph as he flashed past a police camera, followed by a friend doing 148mph, a court was told yesterday.
It is believed to be the highest speed recorded on a British road and both riders were warned to expect a stiff penalty after pleading guilty to dangerous driving.
Neil Bolger pleads guilty after being caught in a police speed trap in Buckinghamshire doing 148mph
The men, both 29, were said not to be racing each other. Andrew Osborne, from Leamington Spa, Warwicks, who was clocked at 157mph, and Neil Bolger, from Gaydon, Warwicks, must wait until next month to find out their sentence, but were given interim driving disqualifications.
Magistrates in Aylesbury, Bucks, heard that the men were spotted on the A421 near Buckingham speeding through an underpass on a dual carriageway noted as an accident blackspot. The road had a 70mph limit.
Theresa Murphy, prosecuting, said they overtook a lorry on a sweeping bend before being caught by the speed trap.
Darren Rogers, defending Osborne, a master technician, argued that the case should be dealt with by magistrates and not referred to the Crown Court.
Nicholas Devine, defending Bolger, a lorry driver, said that although he was travelling at excessive speed there were no aggravating features. "There is no evidence of alcohol or drugs," he said.
The case was adjourned for four weeks for reports.

How can they prove that HE was the one driving? No proof there.
1.6 kilometeres equals 1 mile. thuse 150 km would be 93.75 that is nothing remarkable, but at a turn?

Made good bucks in NC swapping in 454BBs into 4wd Blazers w/wiped 350SBs.
Flywheel, stock Chevy PU motor mounts and exhaust.
Chevy & other GM BBs drop into big'ol Jeep Wagoneers using a GM Chevy or BPO or Caddy THM400 tranny case & the AM GM THM400 guts.
Use an early Olds Variable-Pitch GM THM400 front pump and torque converter and put a toggle switch on the dashboard.
High & Low torque multipication on top of the High & Low 4wd transfer case.
Wow.
12 speeds fwd to use...
4 wheels smokin' off the line, a quick toggle touch and instant higher top end; a literal 5th speed.
Boneyard science from W-NC NASCAR mountain boys...

got 115 out of my old dresser. It was stock so I fixed it to go little faster.
Harley's are harder to blow because of the size of the engine and the pistons in particular. Old shovel engines are purported to be bulletproof too.
Regardless of what you ride there is only one universal truth, keep the rubber side down.

That's England LTM.
Miles....look closely at the vidcap...it says mph.
At 148 approaching a curve, he is reaching for an amateur.

The Brits give speeding tickets in mph? That's right: we still use MPH and miles exclusively on the road.
In fact, it's illegal to use kmh speed limit signs and km distance signs. A local council was fined last year for using km on a footpath sign.

105? That's pathetic, I've got a 1200 Custom Sportster that's pretty much stock and even it'll do 110-115 without a problem.

Well, we can rule out Harley Davidsons right off the bat, of course.

Wannabees??? HA!
Many Harley riders only ride because they "look good" on it parading down the boulevard. Talk about wannabe motorcyclists.
Give me a crotch rocket, or a dirt bike, or a real touring bike, or even a scooter for fun, any day over a parade bike.
I don't have anything against Harleys, would love to have one, just most Harley riders are amateurs and wannabes than most other types.

"The Brits give speeding tickets in mph?"
Oh the horror!! Wait till I tell the EU that these pesky Britons have the audacity to insist on english measurements. The EU will crush these British upstarts, just like they crushed George Bush and the mean spirited US. Oh, wait a minute, it was the US that crushed the pathetic EU.

The Brits give speeding tickets in mph? I think the photo also shows 229 kph.
As far as this being the fastest ever clocked, that's surprising. Many cars can easily go that fast.....the cameras must be new.

The Brits give speeding tickets in mph? Miles, pounds, gallons etc. are all called "Imperial Measures" and are a gift from the Brits.
In fact, there was quite a row a few years back when British butchers had to replace their imperial scales with metric ones.
Personally, as much as I dislike the French, the metric system is far superior to imperial. It is a shame it has never really taken off in our country. The only Americans who use the metric system are scientists and drug dealers.
