This is interesting. It seems like the opponents to this are taking the law to an illogical extreme to make policial hay here. We shall see what develops, I suppose.

Meanwhile, in CA, there is/was a consumer protection bill that would require contracts to be written in the same language as was used in negotiations. Some foreigner signed an English-language contract to buy/lease a car after negotiating the details vocally in Chinese. The contract language was supposedly different from what the buyer claimed to have agreed to, but he didn't read the contract before signing it.
Ballots and government forms are already available in multiple languages here, although English is supposed to be the "official language" in CA.

I think this whole issue is stupid beyond belief. The immigrants come here for a better life. They then immediately start trying to change us to what they were. If they like the language so much go back.
Our strength has been that we merged together to form a union. The original colonists spoke many languages, dutch, english, german, french, spanish... and more. The founding fathers wrote the Declaration of Independance, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights in English.
How can these people dare to want something different? If they want to be here learn the language of our founders and The Bill of Rights.... or leave. It is that simple.
