THE GOP'S MEDICARE SURRENDER - The Wall Street Journal
The Wall Street Journal ^ | June 11, 2003 | Staff

Ted Kennedy has spent his career attempting to nationalize the American health care system. So maybe Republicans should take a hint when the Democrat from Massachusetts says he is delighted with the emerging GOP plans to "reform" Medicare.

As for taxpayers, they should be petrified. What began as a worthy attempt by President Bush to reform the broken retiree health system is fast becoming in Congress little more than a giant new entitlement. Republicans are compromising with themselves so fast that we're beginning to wonder what the point of having a GOP majority really is.

This proposed new welfare system is truly scary. Bush didn't do his homework on this one.

I'm near early retirement age, and therefore I sympathize with young workers who will be paying for this boondoggle for the rest of their careers.

RJ, quit being logical. Can't you see that Bush is doing this with some Machiavellian scheme in his mind to trap the unwary Democrats? You and I just aren't smart enough to see it. But, pretty soon, he's going to let the hammer down.</ sarcasm>

We don't qualify for Medicare or Medi-cal (although if we were illegal we would qualify).

I'm outraged at the illegals who are slurping at the public trough. Soon I'll be retired (early retirement) and someone else can pay for the government and state give-aways.

The GOP has no principals.......

-------------------------

Many years I read a book called Mein Kampf. In it the author called politicians monstrosities of dung and fire. He was correct. Both the Republicans and Democrats confirm that at the highest levels.

President Bush Pleased with Progress on Medicare - "Sientese, por favor. Muchas gracias.
"There's some differences between the two bills. The Senate had one version, the House of Representatives had another, but there's a lot of commonality between them.

..The Medicare system of today does not have prescription drug benefits, as you know. We've got to change that. If medicine is changing, we want Medicare to change with it, on behalf of the senior citizens all across the country.

.."And all the plans will mean there is a prescription drug benefit available. So we're modernizing Medicare. And it's important that we do.

..We believe strongly in freedom.

George believes in freedom. That's why he's going to make sure that you, your children and grandchildren are taxed into complete slavery. Vote Bush, advancing socialism one bill at a time while at the same time magically incrementally facilitating limited government for your children. Thanks for your vote. Sientese, por favor. Muchas gracias.

I don't think that the GOP will survive this decade.

Hi Mortimer. I agree. The socialism they've pushed, promoted and signed will still be running us full speed over the cliff. We'll know that medicare is close to being fixed when the elite political whores are scurrying out of the country for fear of their lives from the pursuit of the now grown children, who have finally shaken themselves out of their apathy and deep sleep and realize the dream is gone. It'll be more exciting than analyzing blue jeans.

There's probably, what, maybe 14 people on FR now that would care about the following article, so I won't bother to post it. Thought you might want to read it though.

'Democracy:' It's a threat to our republic - Pittsburgh Tribune Review - By David P. Shreiner(a retired physician) - June 29, 2003
"The end is in sight. The only question is when will the collapse of democratic socialism finally be obvious to everyone. Pure democracy ends in violence and chaos. Let us hope someone somewhere has a good alternative ready to go when our social structures implode."

Have a good night.

Conservatives Balk at Medicare Reform Costs - "Forty-four House Republicans have threatened to torpedo President Bush's coveted Medicare prescription drug plan ...I mean there's nothing they won't spend money on,...Billions of dollars on farm subsidies, a $400 billion prescription drug benefit on top of a collapsing Medicare system. There's been no financial discipline in this administration whatsoever."

Vote Bush, if his socialism doesn't move you, his jeans will

"Vote Bush, if his socialism doesn't move you, his jeans will..."

If the GOP wants to out-socialize the Dems, then they will have to dig back to the Thirties and resurrect Huey Long and his Bible-based "Share the Wealth" insanity.

Conservatism, for the time being, is dead. The thing will have to run its course, and if we're still around, we'll see the nation crawl up out of the sewer and into the sunlight. I hope.

Once again, I will explain how this game works:

Put a Democrat in office and he runs the ball as far to the left as rapidly as he dares. When the public becomes alarmed at how things get screwed up by the government programs, in comes a Republican.

The Republican continues moves to the left, but uses different rhetoric to justify it. The movement to the left is not as big as what a Democrat would take, but it keeps everything moving left.

The Democrats, in response to the leftward movement of the Republicans, MOVE FURTHER LEFT, in order to outbid the Republicans for the support of their base. The Democrat base is ecstatic, as they win something no matter which party gets in, so, THE VOTE DEMOCRAT, as they can get more from the (perpetually) more leftist party in the running. The "brilliant strategy" never pays off as advertised by the GOP and their supporters, except that the country keeps moving further and further left, with so-called conservatives, who are really more Republicans, split off from the conservatives, creating splintered opposition to leftist policies, while those on the left remain united in their goals.

It's going over the cliff now. There is no stopping it. We had a chance in 1994, but that was only the slight opening of a pressure-release valve to enable Clinton to find a way to maintain his Presidency into a second term. After two terms of Clinton, Republicans would be satisfied with Satan in the White House if he had an "R" after his name.

There is no stopping some sort of traumatic disaster or a total crack-up now. There's too much cognitive dissonance out there, but at least this move has eliminated some of that.

.........

And no matter what they do and say they will support.

Pretty disgusting if you ask me.
