If the Feds want to get rid of M-14s, I'll be happy to take one off their hands.

I would love to buy a semi-auto M-14 or M1A1.
I just don't have the cash to pay for a brand new one.

I shot and carried one in the Navy. It is a great rifle.

I just signed - now the count is up to VERY close to 9,000.
I want an M1A - but they are too expensive now. If the gov't actually decides to sell the M-14s, the prices will decline to a much more reasonable price, as will the mags. I think that the only chance of this is if some Congresscritter is contacted and inserts a provision in some "must pass" bill. If anyone knows of a willing 'critter, please contact him/her.

I was around for the conversion from the 14 to the 16 and let me tell you that the first generation of those little mattel toys (the 16) sucked, big time. They tried to completely replace our outfit and the things failed on the first mission. The first generation 16s were not reliable, they jammed easily when slightly dirty (hey, we're in a jungle here, I ain't got time to break down and clean my weapon in the middle of a firefight) their small caliber round was easily deflected in the deep brush. I could go on and on here. My whole company came back to the quartermaster and threw the damned things back at him and demanded our 14s back. The CO was the first one in line. That pretty much ended that. As the story goes, the 2nd generation of the 16 was much better. But, our outfit demanded to carry both, the 16 and the 14, just couldn't trust it after the initial useage.
You could dunk a 14 in a rice patty and the damn thing actually worked better. You grab one from your buddy in a fire fight, click in you combat zero and it was like your own weapon. Turn that bad boy to "rock & roll" and you got yourself a mini-BAR. Saw a guy chop down a big palm tree with 3 clips. The weapon would rock the enemy's world and only give a little kick.
I loved that rifle. I've owned many a long rifle but nothing, nothing shoots like an M-14. You hit what you aim at without a fancy scope.
I wish they would auction those rifles off instead of destroying a fine weapon. Break them up into lots and give them to VFWs and American Legion posts. Let them raffle them off for 25 buck a pop. Do something, but don't destroy a work of art like these weapons. Boys became men at the butt of them, enemies were thwarted and the mussle of them. They were the best friends of the brave grunts that carried them. Give them a better home, not a roaring furnace.
