When my oldest was sent home from the hospital for atypical pneumonia last fall there were some pretty strong meds she was prescribed in case there was an underlying mycoplasma or other bug developing. The initial virus caused such a frail condition that we had to really quarantine for months just as preventive medicine.

Mycoplasma is seen in schools and other close quarters.
