Wonderful article!

I mentioned weeks ago about the late Dr. Don Wiley working with peptides as a virus vaccine and one freeper went overtime saying I didnt know the science, "everyone uses peptides, yada , yada.

I even posted a conference on Peptides that had a presentation about peptides as a treatnment for SARS.

Dr. Don Wiley ,who died after "falling off the bridge in Memphis" was into vaccines for viruses and peptides and was a huge target for terrorists in my opinion.

I believe Wiley was murdered because he was such a star player against viruses.

I'll try to find the "Tides" conference, and post it.

When my oldest was sent home from the hospital for atypical pneumonia last fall there were some pretty strong meds she was prescribed in case there was an underlying mycoplasma or other bug developing. The initial virus caused such a frail condition that we had to really quarantine for months just as preventive medicine.

Mycoplasma is seen in schools and other close quarters.

Funny you should mention that...had just spoken of that summerless year yesterday afternoon and couldn't remember the date in history. We are at least two months behind up here and I'm waiting for the mildew to hit the corn which has finally sprouted a few inches. Nice weather for germs and molds. What was the winter of 1816/1817 like? Any epidemics?

I just finished reading a book about the Congress of Vienna of 1814-15. At least in Europe, the winters of those two years were also severe. And there was a severe epidemic of flu in the winter of 1814-15. Most of the dignitaries at the congress in Vienna caught the flu. So did Napoleon on Elba.

As I recall Judith Anne had what she thought was a flame war with a poster who tends to be rather cutting and sarcastic. I thought she handled herself well, but then, I am a lawyer and argue for a living, while she is a nurse and is supposed to be nurturing and caring. Maybe she didn't like it.

My sister is a nurse and hates to argue. She thinks it's weird to argue for fun.

People have a tendency to be jarred by their first flame war, but hopefully she'll get over it and come back, because her posts are excellent.

Thank you. My hobby is anthropology/archaeology, I study this stuff. BTW, a comet shower in 540AD caused the Dark Ages and the recovery took 300-400 years, many died.

The epidemics were rampant from 1804-1817, but the "year with no summer" (1816) was blamed for the "European Typhus Epidemic" that ravaged Southern Europe and the mediterranean and the "Cholera Epidemic of 1816-1817" in India.

There were a lot of premature pneumonia deaths in the US and there was famine throughout the Northern Hemisphere.

Historically, the bizarrely cold weather of 1816 may have been responsible for: the shift of farming from New England to the Midwest, the continuing difficulties France faced after the defeat of Napoleon, massive global migration and even the creation of some great works of art!

About the only thing right in the article about SARS being stopped is that Taiwan couldn't take much more damage to its economy.

Just like misdiagnosing SARS,taking steps that are based on the economy will clearly lead to more deaths.
