UN Envoy Says to Meet Suu Kyi in Myanmar

YANGON (Reuters) - U.N. envoy to military-ruled Myanmar Razali Ismail said he would see detained pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi on Tuesday morning to check on her condition and express international support.

"I'm happy to announce I shall be going to see Daw Aung San Suu Kyi in half an hour," Razali told reporters. "When I see her I'll tell her about the international worries about her and how the U.N. will take steps to ask for her immediate release."

Concern has intensified over the health and whereabouts of the Nobel peace prize winner since a clash between her supporters and those of the junta on May 30 as she was touring a provincial town in the north. She has been in detention since then.

Oddly Enough:

Woman Kills Man with Her High-Heeled Shoe

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Add "The Shoe Murder" to the chronicles of New York's crimes of passion. A stormy relationship ended up on a Brooklyn street in the early hours of Saturday when a 220 pound woman sat on her ex-boyfriend's chest and clubbed him to death with her size 12 high heeled shoe, police said. Anna Rhinehart, 40, told authorities she attacked Roosevelt Bonds, 51, in self-defense after he punched her in the mouth, knocking out her two front teeth.

The passionate struggle to the death began at 3 a.m. Saturday when Bonds saw Rhinehart at a restaurant with another man, police said.

"There was a dispute between them and the man was struck in the head and body with a blunt instrument," police spokeswoman Det. Carolyn Chew said.

Rhinehart was charged with manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon. "It was her shoe," Det. Chew said.

The museum was indeed heavily looted, but its Iraqi directors confirmed today that the losses at the institute did not number 170,000 artifacts as originally reported in news accounts.

Actually, about 33 priceless vases, statues and jewels were missing.

"I said there were 170,000 pieces in the entire museum collection," said Donny George as he stood with beads of sweat glistening on his forehead in his barren office at the museum. "Not 170,000 pieces stolen."

So, poor Donny was very, very angry and if he didn't lie, he certainly didn't correct everyone's misapprehension. I don't care if he's a respected archeologist. He's a piece of turd.
