Given the number of "I didn't vote for the dope from Hope" bumber stickers I saw around LRAFB in 1993, I am under the conclusion Clinton was not well liked in Arkansas. Why is Arkansas pronounced without the last "s", but Kansas is?

arkansas comes from a ouchita indian word meaning people by the river. and most of the people I knwo hate clinton...he was more popular in the cities (if you could call lr, hot springs, and pine bluff "cities")
