Have you ever heard of the phrase "possession is 9/10ths of the law?" If the Peterson's already distributed everything to relatives on their side, all they have to do is tell the Rocha's they didn't have that item, or couldn't find it, or Laci must have sold it cause they never saw it, etc.

I had the same situation happen to me 8 years ago. Here's the plot in a nutshell: Evil older brother has our ill mother (with a drinking problem) make a trust, negating previous will that divided everything equally. You guessed it -- the new trust gave him almost everything. Can't be changed since mother died before existance of trust was discovered.

When I asked for some special items that my mother had promised me since I was a little girl, I was told they couldn't find it or they just ignored my request. Needless to say, we have been estranged since then (my choice entirely -- he doesn't really know why I am so upset!).

Frankly, I don't blame the Roche family one bit. If my brother didn't have guns, I would have done the same thing.

Your situation that you described in #639 sounds so much like my brother-in-law's situation that I was wondering if that's who posted it, till I saw that you are female!

Amazing.
