And Hillary IS popular nationally? A large percentage of the population absolutely HATES her guts and would never vote for her no matter what. Besides, how popular was GWB nationally before he ran for President? How many people even knew who he was? Can't the same be said of most Presidential candidates who were previously governors and so only well-known in their states? And besides, Jeb pretty much has Florida locked up (Considering that he won the last election 56-43, I feel pretty confident in saying that). Hillary may get NY and California, but Jeb is bound to get at least Florida and Texas.

(Looking forward to seeing Jeb stepping over Hillary's rotting political corpse in '08.)

Yes, but most of those won't vote for ANY Dem, no matter what. It's the swing voters we need to sway.

I just feel it's different, since Hillary has the iconic, ex-co-president image, and she'll get TONS of glowing, warm-fuzzy positive coverage from Rather, Sawyer, Couric, et al, ad nauseum.

Very good point. That would definitely be Jeb's advantage. Perhaps it's paranoia on my part, but I just fear a replay of the whole Rick Lazio thing here. No matter what, it'll be seen as a boy vs. girl fight, and if Jeb so much as tries to be a solid debater or call Hillary on any of her stupid positions, the media will spin it as, "He's picking on the defenseless girl." I dunno.

Besides, how popular was GWB nationally before he ran for President? Bush was beating Gore in polls in early 1999 and that continued into 2000 before the numbers flip-flopped many times. Bush had high name ID-- if only because people thought 41 was running again in 2000 and not Dubya. Hildebeast has high name ID, too. She'd win the nomination next year in a rout and would get about 42% at minimum.
