I heard on some newscast it is because the people involved are attractive, and because it is from Modesto, CA where Gary Condit, Chandra Levy live(d). There may have been other reasons given, but that's all remember.

Yes...and I think it's because there was a child involved as well. It's terribly sad; Lacey and Connor certainly deserved better. May they both rest in peace.
Personally, while I'd like to see justice done, I find the whole story too sordid and depressing to follow.
