One of the greatest horrors of my life happened one time when I was expecting my sister to visit me in North Carolina from Connecticut.

My beloved 'Nuff Kitty (alternated between 'can't get e'nuff' petting and 'that's e'nuff' petting) was very old, and sleeping a lot, days obviously numbered.
Living in North Carolina, the driveway to the house in the woods was 170 ' from the road, and I had to be careful to watch for her snoozing on the warm gravel when I drove up it.

Anne due any minute, I tossed the last laundry load into the dryer - a couple of towels and the throw rug from by the sink, a shaggy cream one.

Had just removed some hand towels and odds and ends from it, and stopped to put them on the linen closet shelf, opposite the dryer.
Completed that, closed the dryer and turned it on, and went outside to watch for Anne to drive up.

After about 20 minutes,I went to get the load out and put the rug in place.
"Hmmm...how on earth did it get 'rust spots' on it?"

Yep - she had crawled into it to get warm while my back ws turned, burrowing in the things in the dryer.

As Anne drove up, my husband was shoveling a burial spot under a tree, and I was cradlng her in a baby blanket in the kitchen, sobbing....

Big Sister always was there for the tragedies of life for me, and that was no exception.....
