The Iranian's do not all agree on who should replace the clerics, but they do oppose our government cooperating in any way with the ruling clerics. They fear it will only legitimize them. The other thing they agree about is that they support a genuine democracy, but are not in agreement who should lead it, at this time.

How many of the old Iranian left are working under the banner of democracy now ? As I remember, Iran used to have a communist party, radical socialist parties, such as Mujahedin and Fedayen Khalq, and other socialist outfits. I know they were initially part of Khomeini's revolution only to be compeltely purged later. Would they have much influence among exiles ? How about among Iranian domestic population ?

I just want to get a feel of what kind of government model democratic Iran will embrace.
