I anticipate that the article is close to the truth. There is infighting within the Revolutionary Guards and some of them are working according to "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" but the others despise the Talibans and al Qaeda. Expect more of them in the former category to be fired and put in jail.
This will as well be used by Khatami to get more power to the presidency.
