I hope that the recent diplomatic crisis in Europe is enough to remind Americans of how much hostility they face in "old Europe" -especially France and Germany, both filled with unrepentant Communist organizations such as huge trade unions. In the absence of a socialist paradise to point to anywhere in the world, what now motivates the European Left is strictly anti-Americanism. It's all they have left. And they are not going to change anytime soon. They are people whose whole psychology is defined by believing in socialism and communism. The German government, populated by the "1968" Generation, is a case in point. IMO, they're lost for good. The USA should recognize this reality and shift its centre of attention from Western Europe to central Europe, the "new" Europe. Here they will get a warm welcome. I believe the Bush Admin. is doing this already, and hope they do more of it...

Most Americans are very aware of eastern europe. If they knew how many beautiful places there are to visit and how much history they would find I'm sure that a shift in vaction plans would be taking place.

Tourists not only bring the family vacation money, they bring interest in investments as well.
