The dance seen was necessary to get the audience emotionally attached to the people of Zion and to have a mental investment of what Zion is in a 5 minute sequence...it was quick and did the job.

I am curious as to why you thought the philosophical angle to the movie was psycho-babble. Did you not get the significance, or were you not interested in that aspect of the film?

The BO numbers are based on the name recognition and inertia of success of the first film. I predict it will nosedive pretty soon as word of mouth quickly gets around about what a turkey it is... Kinda like what happened with the later Batman movies: huge first weekend takes based on name recognition and then buyer's remorse sets in.

It is nowhere near the turkey that the Star Wars film was a couple of years back..

But I have no plans to go anywhere near New Jersey!

Some of your money will end up in New Jersey to help reelect Democrat Senator Frank R. Lautenberg.

Hopefully I get it and don't walk away thinking it sucked.

Did you see the original? If not, I dont know how you could possibly understand Matrix Reloaded.

I strongly disagree. Matrix box office will depend less on word of mouth than most films, because there are legions of people (myself included) that will likely see the film dozens of times before the third film release in November. The Matrix is more than a movie. To some, it is a pseudo-religion. The first movie never had a very wide audience appeal, but a deep appeal to those who saw a message in it. It isnt for everyone, but I think Reloaded will break almost every box office record between now and the final chapter.

I think you're totally wrong...In my not so humble opinion it was a great flick to watch again and again..

It was AMAZING. That fight scene with Neo and the agents??? I've never seen anything like it.

The new bullet time is astounding, Trinity's opening scene where she's falling and shooting is killer -

this is simply a kick-ass movie. The parts in Zion are incredible. I really LOVED this movie. By the way, stick around until after the credits, if you go see it...

The first movie never had a very wide audience appeal,

It made about 374 million worldwide, the budget was 64 million. Not exactly small change.. its breakout appeal was the reason two expensive sequels were made.

"LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - "The Matrix Reloaded," the movie produced by AOL Time Warner's Warner Bros. studio, [!] raked in a record $42.5 million at domestic box offices in its first day..."

I love these Matrix threads. Something about this flick brings out the Scrooge in people. I haven't seen it yet but there is simply no way it could suck worse than hundreds and hundreds of other films- Dumb and Dumber, American Pie 2, Rambo 2, Event Horizon to name a few. I mean those movies made me question whether I wanted to be part of the human race or not- literally.

I'm looking forward to seeing it and I'm already pretty sure I would see it at least a couple of times. I won't judge it totally until I've seen all three- I figure I would have only seen two thirds of the story after this one. It took a long time for the Matrix to percolate in my thoughts. I still watch it every so often and enjoy it every time (every time something new). I expect it to have this one sorted out by the time the last installment of the trilogy comes out.

What I mean by a not very wide audience appeal, was that the film made money by many multiple viewings, rather than many seperate people seeing the film only once. The film had incredible appeal to those who saw it, I don't know anyone who has seen the first movie only one time.

The shot with Trinity and the Agent shooting in bullet time at each other while falling off a 75 story building(from about 4 close up angles all the way down) is incredible..

Prepare yourself for an incredible ride. Many people are missing the significance of the Dance/Love scene in the film; probably because they are waiting for the special effects, which are way beyond anything that has ever been done before. The chase scene is unbelievable.

If you are interested in the film's message, you will have a much better time, than if you are there for the effects. Just remember what Morpheus asks Neo in the first movie; "What is real; how do you define REAL?" Then you will have a blast.

I hear a lot of talk about this "DANCE SCENE". Goodness... It must be a spectacle to behold.

I'm sure I'll enjoy the film. And like I said, I'm sure I'll see it more than once (especially after I buy the DVD). Again, when I saw the Matrix, I didn't immediately put it down as one of the best movies I ever saw. It was only later that I put it in my top 10. I expect the same process to happen here.

But bottom line still... It couldn't possibly be worse than Solaris. There's a film that made me want to grab the director and shake him violently.

Well, I should say, I liked Event Horizon.

The Dance scene is not very graphic, it just may seem to some to be out of place, considering where it happens in the movie. I wish there was a 'spoilers' thread where we could discuss it more, but I don't want to ruin it for you.

I think a lot of people were chomping at the bit for some serious kung-fu right from the gate, but were instead treated to the somewhat 'tribal' dance scene. After 4 years, many forgot to manage their own expectations and remember that there is a real message to the film.

Do what I did. Buy tickets for two showings, so you can see it back to back. You will miss much in the first viewing that you will want to understand after you see the way they cut the ending.

I've always found that if you want to put spoilers, putting it in white font works well. Tell people that you are going to put a spoiler in in white text, and voila. Like this:

In order to make text be in white, use the following:
Whatever text you want to not have be seen unless the person manually selects it here
To see the text, just select it (either using your mouse or doing a control-a).
