House Won't Act on Assault Weapons Ban
The Republican-controlled House will not renew the federal ban on Uzis and other semiautomatic weapons, a key leader said yesterday, dealing a significant blow to the campaign to clamp down on gun sales nationwide.
House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Tex.) said most House members are willing to let the ban expire next year. "The votes in the House are not there" to continue the ban, he told reporters.
His spokesman, Stuart Roy, said, "We have no intention of bringing it up" for a vote.

Remember where this is published - The
Washington (com)PostThere are two and only reasons that the fanatic gun haters at the Post published this.
- To lull pro-freedom Americans into a false sense of security and
- To energize freedom haters to greater lengths to get it through
The bill is by no means dead. If constant pressure isn't kept on the slime wads in Kongress, they'll sneak it through like the original ban.

This is a very dangerous game Bush is playing. I hope he pulls it off but I'm not holding my breath.

Absolutely. I did so yesterday to both my current rep, and the one who I used to have until redistricting.

We CANNOT rest on this issue.
Don't for one minute take the Wash Post's opinion as gospel. Write, call, and write again on this issue. Today I mailed letters to the White House, my Rep, and my two Senators on this issue.
Don't e-mail: e-mails are worthless. Send letters or call. Give them your name and address and a short message FOR or AGAINST the law.
To easily find your congresscritters' address, go to Gun Owners of America Contact Page and type in your zip code. NOW!

Even some Democrats are seeing how silly banning weapons for cosmetic reasons really is. The facts are the the 1994 assault weps ban did nothing to curb crime and added more red tape to a system that didn't need any more burden..

you are 100% CORRECT!!!!
We can never stop being vigilant on this issue.
To: AntiGuv
Just what Bush wanted. By saying he would sign the renewal, he was really telling the Republicans in the House to grow a pair and let the current ban run out.
I am glad to see that the Republicans in the House are now willing to pull their own load and not depend on the President to cover for their cowardice!
Bush outwits the RATS again! Don't they ever learn?

GREAT NEWS. Thank goodness the House Republicans act like Republicans. Now the Senate RINO's are a totally different and disappointing story.

What an asinine provision!

This would be so nice, the first thing I am going to do is buy about 10 high capacity mags for my Glock 21. I can't wait for those $6.99 AR-15 mags NIW again and $29.00 AK drums. Hey, maybe the mags with law enforcemet only stamped on them will have some collector value. Ahhh, the good old days

The first sentence of this piece of journalistic excellence is, at best, a distortion of the facts and at worst a blatant lie.
The Republican-controlled House will not renew the federal ban on Uzis and other semiautomatic weapons, a key leader said yesterday.
The implication, as always, is that the sunset will have all of us carrying Thompson submachine guns. Do any of these freaking idiots know anything about guns?
To: Joe Brower
Let's hope this works out.

What exactly will happen as a result of the bill's sunset? (Different kinds of guns now legal? Just certain parts?) I wasn't old enough to care when the bill was passed a decade ago. All I know is that the bill is the reason why my AK-47 is a collage of parts.
