There's been so much devastation this past week with tornados....isn't this more than normal?

Not really. It is May 8 and there is a good amount of cold air to clash with the warm.

The season actually got off to a slow start and it is firing east of my location, so I haven't really seen much this year.

Eh, taken as a discrete 5 day period or so, it's an above-average level of activity.

However, last Spring was far BELOW average for activity.

And when you start to look at longer period this spring, like 2 weeks around this date, or a month around this date, it will likely end up being a more or less normal level of activity.

This weather has just been awful! Yesterday morning I had 3 phone calls around 3:30 AM (one from Budge) saying that there were 2 tornados heading right at us. Totally freaked me out! We have no place to get away from one. Did not start my day off well!
