With a bit of practice you could turn out one, maybe two a day...

Hey, you must be pretty good! For a 1 gram carbon resistor you would be precise to around 50 micrograms.(lots of assumptions in your favor) Pretty deft with a file.

The secret is to file a shallow groove. As you get closer to the target value rotate the resistor slightly so you are not filing on the bottom of the groove but at a point on one end of the groove.

It does require a deft touch...
