Good analysis. The Davis-recall effort is a no-win for California Republicans, if there were such a thing. It's just a bad, bad idea. The fact of the matter is, as badly as California needs an overhaul in its leadership, the state-GOP needs it more.

California is doomed for the forseeable future. Might as well let it tank on the Democrats' watch. Maybe it will eventually give rise to a viable second party in the state.

Yes, it is much better for the infection to be contained in California and fester there. Hopefully, California will vote for W. in 2004 and throw out Barbara Boxer from the Senate. A successful recall would lance the boil and decrease pressure. The DemocRAT candidate for President could then win the 2004 race in California and drag Boxer along to win a third term in the Senate.
