He removed it at my request, I thought I gave too many details about my friend. I'll try again.

It hasn't anything to do with 'feminism.' It has to do with the fact that Russian gals, like everyone else, are looking for decent men, and sometimes decent men are considered too nerdy to be attractive in a competitive bride market here in the States.

Let me say this about Russian women (not from personal experience, mind you, Mrs. Jones is American born; but ...)

Two of my best friends married Russian gals. The first guy took a tour of Russia and just happened to meet a woman in Moscow. In the early 90s.

We assumed the worst. Greencard huntress, predator, fleeing the revolution at any price, yadda yadda.

Turned out she's and angel. And beautiful to boot. They've been married ten years, have a new baby, and couldn't be happier.

She introduced her best friend to another of our circle. They're married too--no kids, but still together after ten years. Both women live here in the States and are now American citizens, but only one (the first one) brought a relative--her mother, who helps care for the baby.

The two guys I know are perfectly happy, as are their wives. And God bless 'em for that.

Good observation.

This article is not about mail order Russian brides. An interesting side note to this is that marriages between Russian men and American women are at a much higher risk of failure because of mirrored cultural weaknesses.

Generalizing about them, Russian men would probably be considered pigs here in America. They tend to be insensitive and autocratic towards their wives. I do know of one couple in this category though, that violates the generalization and is experiencing a good marriage.

An acquaintance of mine works at a local pharmacy with a Russian woman married to a local man. They've been happily married for about 8-10 years. She was quite accomplished in her homeland - music and art - but works as a cashier here. They seem quite happy. She's just a regular girl - if you've seen some of the TV specials or web ads, those 'ladies' are made up and dressed up like, well, hookers - even, apparently, the nice ones, just to catch the eye of some lucky guy. I suspect there are plenty of 'regular' ladies lost in the shuffle, overshadowed by the ones on the take.

I agree. God bless them. Now me? I went to the Philippines for mine. I made a good choice too.
