It's a long story. Those birds were beautiful blue/white/brown and pink "lovebirds" when I bought them. I had to go to three
Michael's stores to get enough for the project. After multiple dunkings in a concentrated bath of
Rit black dye, then drying them with my hair dryer (which I had hung from my "banana tree fruit basket" on the dining room table), and a final touch-up spritz with some fancier fabric dye spray - the birds were transformed into "Garofalo" material.
The chapter members brainstormed for a good long while before we hit on the final plan. I always have fun working with all the creative minds around here.

I never ceased to be both amazed and (quite properly) impressed with the abundance of talent and creativity my fellow DC Chapter FReepers possess and ao ably demonstrate on occasions such as this one.
Once again, Bravo Zulu, to you and all who made this such a special and spectacular event.
And thanks for the hard work and the great pix.

Thanks for the explanation about the black birds. Thank you for the hard work it took to do this! Leave it to the industrious DC Freepers to come up with this idea and to actually carry it through!
