The following is a TRaffic Advisory from the San Jose Airport
TRAFFIC ADVISORY
On Friday, May 2, 2003, President Bush will visit United Defense, which is located in close proximity to the westside of the Airport. President Bush will arrive at Moffet Field at approximately 9:00 AM. He will be visiting United Defense from approximately 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. The following road closures will occur between 8:00 AM and 11:00AM:
- East and westbound vehicle and pedestrian traffic on Coleman Avenue from Highway 880 to the De la Cruz Boulevard overpass. Off-ramps from Highway 880 to Coleman Avenue will be closed.
- De la Cruz Boulevard, south of Reed Street, will be closed to vehicular traffic.
Airport staff recommends that passengers and Airport employees plan extra time to get to the Airport during this period. The recommended route to access the Airport is Route 87 to Airport Parkway. |

Moffet's just down the street from me here at my office - I can look out the window and see the blimp hangars. What I can't sort out is why he wouldn't just take Highway 101 as a straight shot down from Moffet and get off at the Trimble/De La Cruz exit?
Perhaps they're going up Highway 237 since that tends to have less traffic, and then south on 880 to Coleman. But even that doesn't make much sense, since 880 south of 237 is one of the worst highway bottlenecks in the entire state.
Or maybe this is just a security-related misdirection.
