It's time for gun owners to disassociate ourselves from the extremists who argue that any attempt to sensibly regulate firearms takes us down the slippery slope toward confiscation. There is no threat to losing our right to own guns for sport.

Two points to make here. Gun ownership is not about sport. It's about self-defense, both as an individual, and philosophically as a nation. Second point: you cannot disassociate yourself from something that does not exist. The extremist gunowner (i.e. the character in "Tremors") is a concoction of the left. I know many gunowners who are collectors and hunters, who belong to the NRA, and support second amendment as written. They have not built bunkers under their homes, they don't own (nor do they appear to desire to own) automatic weapons, high explosive weapons, or any of the "banned" weaponry typically depicted in this mischaracterization.

I give this article a Clintoon era second amendment encroachment barf. 8^P

Automatic weapons are not banned. They are legal.
