Actually most major cities are like that. Most cities enjoy more freedoms (not just sexual) without having neighbors looking over their shoulder and commenting about their ways than they do in most rural areas. There is a free feeling even when you are walking around the cities (especially New York). You don't have to conform or act a certain way - you can dress the way you want without people even taking a second glance at you. Most people in cities tend to respect other people's habits. Most people go to the cities to live for those freedoms. But that doesn't mean that city people aren't religious either. I go to St. Patrick's Cathedral and it is soo packed that it is usually standing room only. But Your statement is correct in that city people don't want politicians trampling over their freedoms which is why they probably think Democreeps are best (I personally think they are ill-informed!)

I'll never forget the time I went down to NYC to work with NYSUM, a ministry that reaches out to the homeless. I was walking down a busy street and coming toward me was a handsome young man sporting an expensive leather jacket and carrying a leather bag for his work (I can't remember the name of it==grrr!). Anyway, as we walked by eachother, I noticed he was wearing a woman's slip and boots. It was so incredibly ODD! I live in a small town. You'd never see that here. You're right, people don't care what you wear in the city.

I also live in NYC...I agree with what you said about the freedom to express yourself openly in cities with no fear of criticism...I also like to live surrounded by people and yet exist in relative solitude when I choose...

I think that city people often vote for Democrats because large numbers of urban people/voters staff the schools, hospitals, prisons, motor vehicles bureaus, etc...Democrats and the unions tend to run urban centers.
