I would guess that there are probably few left-wing creationists out there, but evolutionists fall on both sides of the political fence.

I understand your dismay, but please don't feel bad. It is entirely possible that God can use discussions like these to open eyes. In a forum this size, opinions do abound.

I think the reason that evolutionists fall on both sides of the political fence is because evolution is a secular philosophy. Many Conservatives and most Liberals hold to secular beliefs.

Creationists, however, tend to be conservative because they are mostly Bible believing Christians....and the Bible, taken literally, is full of conservative teachings. Personnally I know of no Christian Creationists who are liberals. I guess there could be a few out there somewhere....

Rest assured, there are antievolutionist loons on the left as well. They may not be Genesis literalist creationists but they are similarly confused. Some of the varieties:

- Native American creationists -- i.e., it's literally true that a particularly tribe has "always" occupied a piece of land; that various creation myths are true

- "Afrocentrism"...this has been mentioned on the thread a bit already

- left-wing social scientists who go in for the "blank slate" model of human nature, basically the idea that culture determines everything and there is no fixed human nature. This one really bugs evolutionists, see e.g. Stephen Pinker's The Blank Slate. Generally these people don't debate evolution but they basically say it has no influence on humans.

There are, I think, Hindu and Islamic creationists also but whether they are liberal or not is debatable.

In general the whole postmodernist-whatever-your-culture-believes-is-true nonsense of certain parts of the left bugs scientists to no end. See e.g. works by Paul Gross ("Higher Superstition" etc.).
