More Diversity From Nascar
Jesse Jackson's initiatives to increase minority inclusion in professional American sports was furthered by leaders from two top auto racing organizations, NASCAR and CART, who agreed to work harder to diversify this $5 billion-a-year industry. Meanwhile, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Kersee have formed a partnership with Roehrig Motorsports, and the team plans to compete next season in Winston Cup. Representatives from NASCAR said their goal is to "increase the number of racing enthusiasts to the broadest possible audience." Nascar is currently planning to form a diversity council to help address the needs of minority divers, mechanics and support staff. CART will begin work with a black North Carolina racing team, on a program to identify three black drivers to drive and train under CART experts and sponsors.
