My Father Died Tuesday Morning. An old soldier passes on...

My father died yesterday and I had the privilige of standing next to him and saying goodbye as he took his last breaths. He is having a military funeral for the most important event in his life was the 18 months he spent with the 101. He joined them at age 16 as they crossed the Mediterranian to Italy. He was young and ski patroled the Alps for a while then was spun off to the new MPs to help keep the peace in occupied Italy. He had many funny stories including the time he was involved with arresting the general who headed the Italian forces and engineered the surrender to the Allies. He even married an Italian woman. God rest his soul.

Losing a parent is always such a great loss. But they live on in us and we never forget them. It is an honor to be able to be by their side at such a time. He must have been very special from all you said.

I'm sorry about the loss of your Dad.

I lost my father one and a half years ago and do miss him. I was thinking of him while watching O'Reilly tonight. My father was Canadian and would be having a fit over their asinine administration.

You and your family are in my prayers.

My father-in-law wasn't in the 101st but he was in the 126th AAA, Battery C and knowing him was and will always be one of the greatest parts of my life. I'm not very religious but I will go to bed with thoughts of you and your dad tonight. I'm so very sorry.

A salute to a gentleman who is merely fading away. Most of the time he is just fine.

Hand Salute

My Dad is 78 and still with us. He spend 43 and 44 on Waikiki Beach with an artillery unit. He was headed across the Pacific with the Invasion Force when Truman nuked the Japs.

His brother, whom I am named after, was with the 54 Armored Infantry under Patton. He was killed the morning the unit crossed the Moselle, Nov 19th, 1944.

They were all special people. So carefree and young!

I too was born in the fifties. I am just now finding out what my uncles did during the war. I was among heros and did not even know it. I heard my dad tell stories but I never asked for more information. I would give millions for 10 minutes with him. I know every song from his funeral. Listen to the song On Eagles Wings......My condolences to your family

God Bless your Father. He's moved on to a glorious place and may he rest in eternal peace.

i just lost my fiesty, sprite and hip 90 year-old Grandma yesterday as well. We have to believe inside that those we love go on to a better life to rejoin the ones they've been without for much too long.

Rejoice in His glory to give eternal life to those we love.
