I almost wish one of the Mars Landers had found old tires and beer cans...Even THAT!

Watch out what you wish for. Proof of an advanced civilization, even one that died out thousands of years ago, on another planet could possibly topple one of the pillars of society...namely religion. Religious leaders from every faith would have a lot of explaining to do to the faithful. Hard telling how that would pan out.

Then why is it that when people of most religions pray, they look out into the heavens?

It wont even phase the philosophical concept of God and who cares if someone's religious feelings gets hurt. It is called growing I think ;)

Besides you can doubt god all you want but there is no escape from religion which requires no god.

I had already heard the "In my Father's house are many mansions" quote used for just that, and under peculiar conditions.

Many years ago I was out back with my telescope, which was tracking the Coma Berenices Cluster..a swarm of galaxies, when the doorbell rang. It was some religious guy handing out tracts.

"Never mind THAT..come out here and look at this!".

For him it was a religious experience..it really blew his mind and he got INTO it, and came back at my invitation a week later. He had no trouble with the concept at all.

He felt his Boss could do anything He wanted, including populating anything He built.

Maybe more orthodox religions would gag on the concept, I don't know.
