That's awesome! you should be so proud of your sister and brother-in-law for changing those travel plans and making sure the french knew why!

I am--and I didn't even have to talk to her about it. They had made the plans months ago--and I didn't know they'd changed their plans until they returned (it was one of those "Oh, you mean I didn't tell you? I thought I did" sister moments). I was overjoyed.

Just think: France lost out on the tourist dollars of four fairly well-to-do tourists (my sister, her hubby and another couple). And, knowing my sister, she was ready to spend freely. Lavishly, as a matter of fact. And that money went into the coffers of the UK and Ireland, not France. I hope more people emulate them.

My niece just went to London with her boyfriend and his family a few weeks ago. Actually the war started while they were over there. My niece got engaged on the Thames! So they had a great time and the money went to the UK.

The UK is much cleaner than France too. I like the food better. Because we were stationed just a few hours from France's border I went on a lot of day trips to the Alsace region and bought some beautiful things.

But, that was before I knew better. The people in that area of France seemed a lot friendlier than they did in Paris. My friends who are still in Germany have stopped their outings to France so I know that they must be noticing the absence of Americans.

None of them are in Iraq but two of them have been on alert for quite some time so I have been sort of holding my breath all this time.

I saw an explanation of this. There are three different pronunciations of Qatar.
A classical arabic (KAH-tar), a common 'local' pronunciation (GUT-ter), and modern commercial (ka-TAR).

You know how you read a personal interest story that sticks out in your mind. I read a story about the Young family and dealing with their son's missing status. His dad said something to the effect that if his son wasn't found safe he didn't want to live. From that time forward, I have watched for the safe return of Young intently. This a.m. I am sooooo happy for this family.

No matter where our loved ones are serving this country, it takes a special, courageous person to dedicate him/herself to ones country and it's people.
My brother is in his 20th year with the US Navy, was in GW1, in the Persian Gulf during the Afgan War....He stayed stateside this War. But I constantly tell him how proud I am of him and grateful too!
