Don't let the DU see that, it's heresy.

I agree with you. That was one of the objections I had to characterizations of PFC Lynch as a "hero(ine)." Then I heard (whether it is propaganda or not, I can't tell) that she had actually put up a fierce fight before her capture, which is one reason she was so beaten up.
Then I did consider that she deserved the distinction.
But someone who just was in the wrong place at the wrong time, a victim of circumstance, is not ipso facto a "hero."
Receiving a Purple Heart is a lot more likely, for example, than receiving a DSC.

Saturday is the start of the work week there. We called it "Desert Monday".

Fisher is embed with the Marines.
Reports that the captors thought they had more time and would have moved on north had the Marines not pushed on through the night!

"It was at a traffic circle, by a dam".
The marines didn't want the POWs to be humiliated, showing up in the "pajamas" they were found in. Shoshona reportedly had on some type of "hawaiian outfit...white and purple".
So they gave them Marine uniforms to wear....even though they're Army!

Well we now know why Franken called them all Marines and had to keep correcting himself. The seven were rescued by Marines and the Marines didn't want the 7 to be seen in the ragged clothing their captors had given them to wear so the Marines all gave them Marine uniforms to put on before transporting them. The embed reporter said there was joking around about the army soldiers being put in Marine uniforms but that it was an Army helicopter that took them away.

Mornin guys. just getting going. I pray that it is true that sgt Johnson is in this group. And I expect the media to make as big a deal about her as they did pfc Lynch. She sure desreves the recognition.
Spent yesterday at the Hermitage. Learned that at the Battle of New Orleans Gen. A. Jackson lost 13 killed while inflicting 2000 casualties on the British. And he had no formal military training. He would have loved seeing these young men and women in action.
To: Timeout
FN; at least three, possibly four of the rescued are attatched to 507th maint. co.
