There is another thread currently going that says Putin has announced he would seriously consider forgiving all debts owed to Russia by Iraq. This, of course, puts Schroeder and Chirac in a terrible spot. So, maybe Putin and Bush are playing a very deep diplomatic game. Forgiving the debt is pretty good, and Chirac will have a hard time, because he will look bad if he doesn't, and he will look bad if he does.
Well, that's certainly an interesting thought, that this is a very deep game. And I have to admit I'm in favor of anything that makes Chirac look bad, at this point!
