I just caught up on the thread and was going to go back to find the first mention of the Russian question. But since you mention it I'll pose the question here:
On Brit's show, someone--I want to say Jim Angle--said that three days before the war started, a Russian person whose rank or title I'm not sure of, was sent to Iraq and met with Saddam Hussein. His message: If you love your country and for the sake of your country, leave and take the U.S. up on their offer of exile.
Angle said: It is clear which choice Hussein made.
My question is what do we make of this? Done with our knowledge? It wasn't made clear.

I don't think that I'm a good candidate for this service. English is a foreign language somedays.

My guess is Putin is no fool.
he never directly challanged GWB, and he's way to smarter than to join little france and germany against us.

My observation of Putin these last few months is a man who has his hand caught in the cookie jar. When he was here in the US with GB, he seemed to stand tall and look everyone in the eye. On the tapes we've seen recently, shoulders hunched and looking down most of the time. Maybe he wanted to be with us publically, but the French and German yuckballs had something on him and he had to go with them. Just a thought...

I'm over here yelling at Harrigan. He drove thru the Ba'athist neighborhood north of the palaces and parade arena. The lesser cronies of Saddam's party live here. Gotta tell FOX news to learn where saddam's party members live and avoid that area. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out.

I missed the first half of O'Reilly. Has he mentioned Janeane Garofalo yet?

You mean the Brookings institute guy? Correctomundo!
I am on Hunt's side on this. O'Reilly keeps yapping about PR, when he just showed how the New York Times slants things. I loved Hunt's line that someone could get a flat tire in Baghdad and those papers would say the coalition was failing! HA!

Maybe Freepers should take up Arabic for this purpose out of patriotic duty - seriously I really think there should be a program to train existing native American professional translators of other languages - who have thereby shown their aptitude and skill - in Arabic. We need more loyal American translators of Arabic languages and I think this should be a priority.
I'm a translator (Romance languages) and I attended a legal translation conference in January where an Egyptian-born interprterer addressed us and told us that after working at the 1993 WTC bombing trial, he went up and apologized to the blind sheik for "not being of more help to him." Many translators are foreign born, and they thought this was wonderful. I was so disgusted that I left the conference.

Transcripts of Rummy's DOD briefings are available here:
http://www.dod.gov/speeches/secdef.html, but today's isn't posted yet.
Our SOD can handle the press, but he shouldn't have to. This should be a great time for America - we should be celebrating together. We was robbed by wankers!

That is exactly what I thought! They drove through the Mansur area, which is where they dropped that bomb on the restaurant. Ba'ath area, big time! They atively hate the USA, I am sure.
WE would have known not to drive through that neighborhood!

Michael O'Hanlon on O'Reilly is a wanker. Yes he is. Sitting in studio saying that small businesses and such are being looted, too, is exactly what the reporters over there and seeing it with their own eyes say is NOT happening.
Oh, well, it was satisfying to see Col. Hunt take him in hand.
Alas, I can only take O'Reilly in teeny tiny doses any more. I'm on MSNBC hoping to see the replay of the interview I saw earlier and just posted a description of.

Also wanted share an interview I saw earlier this afternoon on MSNBC.
Again it was Lester Holt and this time he was talking with an embedded reporter. This was Gary Scurka (going by my memory) and he was with National Geographic. He was nothing like Peter Arnett.
He was with Marines and had videotape that was played as he explained what we were seeing and adding personal comments. And what comments they were. He praised the Marines for their skill and being so good to him. He had much to say.
Toward the end of the interview he talked of crossing the river and the bridge being weak so the Marines built a pontoon bridge. This is where he stated bluntly that he will always remember crossing that bridge and seeing the stream of tanks with an American flag flying. He stated it: "I felt proud. Proud of the Marines and proud to be an American".
He was asked by Lester if he had regrets for doing this. He said no. He said again he was proud. He said he would not want to not experience seeing the Marines in action and he said he "had done a lot of growing up" through this experience.

I am on Hunt's side too. O'Reilly cheesed through that segment. Steve Carrigan had a scare. Who helped him out? The military!
