There must be some definitive information on this situation. We'll need several sources but I have come to have great respect for Hitchen's intellectual honesty.

Carolina, you may be right about there being a group of terrorists among the Kurds. That wouldn't surprise me at all, given what we know about human nature in general and what the Kurds have been through in particular.

What I saw on the half-hour documentary was anything but a bunch of terrorists. (I know, I know---the young woman doctor-guide wasn't going to necessarily air all their dirty linen in public and what I saw could have been only one side of the story.) At the very least, there is a large group of the Kurdish population living their lives as we would want to live ours, and proudly trying to pull themselves up beyond a 3rd-world lifestyle.

I stick by my original desire: self-determination for them(and, I have to confess, an unholy desire to see the Turks get a little bit of comeuppance for their behavior toward us as this conflict began).

That is also true. But by throwing out SH, aren't we giving the country back to other people? So we will force them all to be in one country, because force is something we are going to be doing. The suggestion of separate states may work. I want it to be easy. These people have suffered. But like other situations, no side is wholly innocent.
