Rumsfeld addressing questions on WMD. Reporter wants to know if they'll be found and how long the American people should wait?
Rumsfeld has faith in us as having patience and knowledge seekers. When things are found and verified the information will be forthcoming.
Rumsfeld adds he never thought they would be found, just like he didn't think it would happen with the UN inspectors, by opening a door and surprising somebody. LOL

Seems like he should offer at the end of each conference a stick on badge for informational/prudents & for confronal/idiots
something as frivolous as a smile face & frown face.
Or a rose to good & squirt gun shot in face as bad... yeah''

That was the worst thing about clinton was the fools, knaves, and id-10-ts he appointed. Defense: First Andy Gump, and then that moronic pretty boy.

I heard the talking head back in the studio suggesting he wanted to pick up the gun for self preservation. It was such a demeaning denigrating question.
Had no idea that was Bloom's cameraman......thanks for the info. He made me proud of him.

Oooo.... "are there any intercepts about people discussing Saddam's death."
Answer: "I've heard chatter about everything, that he's dead, that he's alive, that this was a double... haven't seen enough intelligence from reliable sources that would enable me to walk up and say that I have conviction that he's dead.... I also lack conviction that he's alive. I'm not keeping anything from you, if I had conviction, I'd tell you...."

Then why did she make a point of saying that? That, btw, the military is as strong as it because of the things that Clinton did?
Why do they KEEP LYING?????

Pentagon briefing - Fri. Apr. 11:
SOD Donald Rumsfeld and Gen. Richard Myers:
"Wednesday's events in Baghdad were remarkable and yet the same day liberated Iraqis were celebrating their freedom we lost a Marine in a firefight and a number of wounded....
Actions of Iraqis belie the lie that Iraqis were ambivalent or opposed (to us)...but were afraid. Now that their fear of the Iraqi dictator is (lessening...we're getting a clear picture)..the images of Iraqis embracing coalition soldiers are being broadcast throughout the world...waving American flags and thanking (troops for their freedom)...
Meanwhile we're working to expand flow of info..to Iraqi people...begun broadcasting a one hour news broadcast...working w/ free Iraqis to begin to establish...an interrum authority...to pave the way for a new Iraqi...(to be chosen by the Iraqi people and no one else)..
Gen. Myers:
Marines fired on a van w/ blackout windows, after it failed to stop or listen to warnings....children were killed...a erminder to Iraqi people, please stop at coaliton check points,
Over the last 24 hours coal. forces have flown more than 1000 sorties...
Ground forces and spec. forces are securing Kirkut and Mosul...securing oil fields..
We must find and eliminate WMDs..and to quote Churchill..."This is not the end, it is not even the beginning of the end, but it is perhaps the beginning..."
Questions:
If you go from a repressive regime that's a police state where people are murdered by the tens of thousands...to a fee state..you go through a transition phase...in every (freed country of my lifetime)..and while no one condones looting, one could understand after decades of repression for them to be taking their feelings out on that regime...coalition forces are (helping..patrol streets, providing stabilizing help...locals will assist)...Are we concerned that this would offset the feeling of lieberation suggests that we'd say "GEE, maybe they would ahve been better off? (it's untidy, but freedom)...
GM: "Actually the situation's pretty good in Umm Qasr and Basrah...and it will get better..
SR: "The pictures you are seeing on TV you are seeing over and over and over and you're saying "goodness, are there taht many vases" I picked up paper...8 or 10 headlines...all this paper could do...("henny penny" negativism ..pick on looting, chaos...when a country is freed....Rummy - excellent rant!) The foreign military came into their country and did NOT do away with their police...in fact we're looking for police to assist (says the bad guy police may not be around...duh).."
SR: "From the very beginning we would conveinced that we would succeed and that means that that regime would end...and taht there would be a period of transition,..and it can not be done (all at once)...catastrophic SUCCESS...we were ready...with food, water...the plan is a complex set of conclusions or ideas that then have a whole series of alternatives...and they've been doing that...and they've been doing a darn good job...the reason that people are going in is because there is food and water and medicine...the British are doing an (awesome) job. Stuff happens...in tems of what's oging on in that country it is a fundamental (misrepresentation) to see those images of (lootings ) over and over...( this rant is a keeper! The press is deaf, deaf, deaf....please check today's transcript)...
SR: "Hospitals..you could take a camera and a micrphone and stick it in front of people in Iraq...and you could find (people to say anything)...the Saddam Hussein regime and the Baath Party put their HQ in hospitals all over the country...were you there? No, you'd be thrown out. 120 schools...(used by) members of the Baath Party but was there any complaints (NO, because you were not allowed)..if you look carefully you'll see people being arrested for looting...that's happening all over the place...and for suddenly the biggest problem in the world to be looting..is notable, to say the least."
GM: "Many residents are returning..water 60% capacity...electric. on west side resumed..critical....food warehouse has not been looted as has been reported"...reading ICRC report...."this is a transition period.."
SR: "There's a long list of 3 or 4 or 5 pages of things that can go wrong and I looked it over this morning and a large number haven't happened...bad. (reporter interupts.."just a minute...in fact I may not even come back to you"..but one ahs to say that the speed that was used and the care that was used in teh targetting and the tactical surprise in starting the ground campaign before the air camp...contributed to securing oil wells, averting humanit. crisis...the task ahead is a hard one...we expect that..but as we go through this I feel that we have a group of wonderful people who have thought this through (humanit. etc)...will it be bumpy? Yes. We can't do this for them. The Iraqi people will ahve to...we (will make the area secure enough for them to do this..)
GM: "Basrah...looting has subsided, still some civilian disturbances, food supplies adequate....(lots of water, med supplies...stability)...it's uneven throughout the country but that should give us (confidence)...
SR: "There are a nmumber of countries lined up (to help)... (Reporter says, "you couldn't do it faster? " Rummy: "Are we in a quagmire?" Laughs.
GM" The fighting in Al Qaim will be drwing to a close shortly...there hae been reports that the leaders want to surrender...in the north things are relatively quiet...forces left...remains fairly stable...enemy targets (remain) N. of Baghdad....Tikrit...we'll have to deal with it..."
Re. Syria SR: "That country has been unhelpful...in several respects...allowing military equip to go into Iraq while we're engaged in conflict...allowing people to come in (to fight us) and allowed people to come into their country (to protect bad guys)...are there still people moving out, into Syria? Yes.."
SR: "The first task is to prevail int hios conflict and to stop the forces of Saddam Hussein....(WMD exploration will follow along after....when we run into stuff we check). We clearly have people (looking) for our POWs...there are documentation that's been received....(on POWs, WMDs,)..we (hope Iraqi people will come forward w. info)...
SR: "There are more troops coming into the country every day (Baghdad as well as other cities...more medicine arriving..there is a curfew in Bagdhad (areas we control)..."
GM: "I think the answer would be YES. In putting together a team...that's the exactly the people we're looking for (to assist...retired police who speak Arabic, etc)..."
SR: "There's no question but embassies around the world, Baath Party offices, etc., all have records...)we've offered two things...financial rewards, promises of leniancy for info from bad guys.)..
Re. how long will the people wait before you find WMDS? SR: "I've got a lot of confidence in the American people...I do not deny for a minute that there is an enormous, unsatiable appetite (for info)...we are not going to find them in my view...by running around and finding them...(the Iraqis designed the locations...sneaky)..what we're going to do is find people who are going to tell us (where they are)...
Re. Saddam? (BILL GERTZ!) SR: "My opinion is they have not secured (the first night hit - Dora Farms ?)., (no, the second hit..reporters say, .in the restaurant)...sure we're looking....what do you do first?...first thing you do is try to end war...stop people from killing people...setting oil wells on fire...(Bret Baier pushes ...says finding Saddam is on list)...we have lots of things on list....I will say this,...if we did (search)...we (probably would not find anything anyway (?) my take)...GM: "Our priority right now is not to be digging in rubble.."
Intercepts of Iraqis dicussing Saddam's death - SR: "I have heard people talk...chatter...almost any conceivable report...that he's alive here...there...I have not seen enough..personally..from reliable sources..(multiple) .that I would say (with conviction that he is dead or alive. ..."I would tell you")..
