A top Iraqi cleric, who has been living in London for 12 years, is reported to have been killed at a mosque in Najaf.
Abdul Majid al-Khoei, head of the London-based Al-Khoei Foundation, returned to his home in Najaf last week under the protection of the coalition.
Al-Khoei is the the son of the late Grand Ayatollah Abul-Qasim al-Khoei, who was the highest Shi'ite religious authority in the world at the time of the Gulf War.
The whole family was persecuted by Saddam Hussein, with many members murdered or disappeared.
