Are you aware that TODAY Honda has a car that actually cleans the air as it runs!
I am deeply saddened that their boondoggle failed.
Perhaps we should subsidize them, yes?
Even 200 miles is unsatisfactory for me. I make a 910 mile trip from San Diego, CA to Pocatello, ID. Along that route, I make a (gas/restroom) stop that takes 10 minutes at Barstow,CA, St. George, UT, Nephi, UT and finally Pocatello, ID. The St. George stop is sometimes extended to 30 minutes for a stop at Denny's for food and a couple cups of coffee. There is no electric car that can make this run.
The EV1 was only offered on a lease basis. It was a $30,000 lease value, so you had astronomical insurance costs. Only a few locations supported recharging and it took forever.
Since moving to Pocatello, I've reduced my daily driving needs to almost nothing. I only need to take occasional lengthy trips. A round trip to Salt Lake City airport is 340 miles...too far for the electric. A round trip to the nearest large city, Idaho Falls, is around 100 miles. Barely in the electric envelope.
