Operation Iraqi Freedom
This thread is dedicated to the brave men and women of the
Armed Forces of the United States of America.
"Wish You Were Here"
For all the free people that still protest.
You're welcome. We protect you and you are protected by the best.
Your voice is strong and loud,
but who will fight for you? No one standing in your crowd.
We are your fathers, brothers, and sons,
wearing the boots and carrying guns.
We are the ones that leave all we own,
to make sure your future is carved in stone.
We are the ones who fight and die,
We might not be able to save the world, Well, at least we try.
We walked the paths to where we are at
and we want no choice other than that.
so when you rally your group to complain,
take a look in the back of your brain.
In order for that flag you love to fly
wars must be fought and young men must die.
We came here to fight for the ones we hold dear.
If that's not respected, we would rather stay here.
So please stop yelling, put down your signs,
and pray for those behind enemy lines.
When the conflict is over and all is well,
be thankful that we chose to go through hell.
Corporal Joshua Miles and all the boys from 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines,
Kuwait 3/9/2003

Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help! If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

Special thanks to Null and Void for keeping these threads running on the weekends, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, Ragtime Cowgirl for her Exclusive Live Transcription Service, Fledermaus for his 15 minutes of fame, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Another possibility: The sniper story was quick cover-your-ass comment by a tank commander who missed the top story of some building near the river. The hotel was over a mile away. This will probably turn out to be an overshoot. There was no second tank round.
If the US wanted the hotel taken out, there would be no hotel.

That was my point earlier - I had noticed that there was a two story building between the tanks and the hotel. This shorter building had a snipers nest on top of it (sandbags).
To: brigette
Dang, now the photo is gone before I could save it.

Fox - virtually every presidential palace has tunnels that lead to another building. VERY elaborate. All over Baghdad.

One of the early reports I heard was that the tank was firing at the top of the building (didn't detail which bldg) and missed....interesting possibility...

Ummm, L.A., CA, has tunnels everywhere around it. It's just not something that is talked about.

Sorry I missed it, just got on. I understand that our range is about 2 miles. Miss something (or even sail thru a soft spot) and something else has got to get hit.
To: brigette
Thanks, brigette.

dpends on which gun they used. It looks like the tank commanders M2 50 cal machine gun, or the gunners M240 7.62mm coax machine took out the cameraman. Both guns are accurate up to 1 mile. The main gun is accuate up to 2 miles.

Well it is my background pic on my monitor now... I don't know why the pulled the thread with the picture as I don't see anything wrong with it, they posed for it and USNews has it. I guess they guys on FR cannot post female butts here on FR. (If anyone wants the link to the classic picture of the British Soldiers showering FRmail me and I will send to you)

It was so hot in LA today that Leno was sweating like Peter Arnett at a VFW convention.
