I think that is what ticked me off the most about Shep's lecture.....saying that there wasn't much difference between being embedded with our military and having a minder in the hotel.

They were taking fire from all sides, office buildings, low-rise roofs, behind walls, the tall office building north of the hotel... when the pic was taken I think they had already blasted the sniper who was behind them.

Not sure. The video that everyone sees where the camera is knocked over by machine-gun fire and then the tank puts a round into the building underneath the camera a moment later happened on the other side of the river from the Palestine, as I understand it. It was an Abu Dhabi camera on the west side of the river, and I don't think anyone with that crew was killed. The shot to the 14th floor of the Palestine Hotel I have yet to see. Maybe someone else can help out here, or clarify.

I wasn't aware of that. I'm afraid I'm not very familiar with their work (spend too much time FReeping to pay attention to much else -- you mean there really is a world outside my computer screen?)

On the other hand, I have caught myself listening to Art Bell and thinking, "Hmmmmm . . . he might have something there."

I have been taping just about everything going on since day one. Snipers were reported to have been firing on our troops from that building hours before our troops responded. I was surprised that we let it go on as long as we did.
