Michael Douglas brands Catherine's former boyfriends idiots (MAUREEN DOWD ALERT)

Michael Douglas has launched an unprovoked attack on some of Catherine Zeta Jones former boyfriends - branding them idiots.

The Welsh actress dated the likes of John Leslie, Soldier Soldier star Angus McFadyen and Mick Hucknall before getting together with Douglas.

Talking about their initial courtship, Douglas, who is 25 years her senior, told the London Evening Standard: "I found out she had strong family ties and had her share of knocks as far as relationships were concerned - she'd been with her fair share of idiots."

And referring to the considerable age gap between them, the actor added: 'I don't mind being Mr Mum. As long as you have something with the woman you love, age is really not what it's about.

He adds that he has no problem taking a back seat while her career goes from strength to strength.

"I recognise that my wife is 25 years younger, in the prime of her career. I'm happy to give her as much space and time as she needs for that," Douglas said.

Catherine Zeta Jones declined to comment on some of Michael Douglas' former girlfriends. ;)
