Why do you need to have the media make moral judgments for you?

I don't need the media to make judgments on my behalf, at least not moral judgments. I'm prefectly capable of making my own judgments. I'm sure you are too.

The media doesn't need to "equate" anybody's version of events with any body elses.

The media just needs to put all the relevant players on the table, be open about who they are, what they have to gain or lose from what they are saying, explain why they put this player as opposed to that player on the air or in print.

If you are looking for the media to make moral judgments on your behalf, you are setting yourself up to be manipulated and stage managed.

I don't have any problem with "the search for truth." I take myelf to be a full partner in that search. I don't want to be spoon fed. I don't want to be feed self-serving spin from either side as if its truth. I don't need the media to ENDORSE this side or that side, just present them, critically, neutrally, fairly, openly, and fully. Present lots of arguments on all sides. Put people on criticizing each other's arguments.

Tell the story from the left, from the right, from the center, upside down and backward, while making it clear what angle is operating when.

Selecting the relevant players and telling us who they are and what they have to lose or gain involves a lot of judgment, and much of this judgment has to do with morality. It's inevitable for the media to make moral judgments in the course of their reporting.

I don't need the media to make moral judgments for me, but they do make moral judgments on their own behalf, and those judgments may be right or wrong.

Just thought I would pop in here and post what I have heard, which is that no one was killed in the incident we were discussing earlier.

FNC only shows pictures when we want to see the press conference, not their stupid pictures, which we've seen already.

No Way. He would never make it. Terry McAuliffe is much bigger liar than this guy.

Baghdad Bob woulda been cool after the last election... "Republicans are no where near the Senate! We have defeated them, and hundreds have committed suicide! We Democrats have been victorious, with some technicalities..."

I agree with your assessment that Fox has the best commentary, but CNN did have the best images (a lot of times they were the only station with any of the live video feeds from downtown Baghdad).

But Aaron Brown has GOT to go. A-10's were dropping flares after each of their runs last night and the guy had to ask EVERY time if they were dropping bombs. Each time the army consultant they had no there told him, politely, that they are just flares to ward off any SAMs. When he then asked if they could be dropping flares on targets to take them out - good video or not - I had to change the channel.

Your post #56 - should be counter to what is being reported today in article about American Military "apologizing" for hitting cameramen (sort of) who said they did not see anyone shooting where they were. YOU obviously saw the results of them shooting from these positions - IT WOULD BE GOOD IF YOU OR OTHERS COULD EMAIL some people telling what you saw. Don't waste your time with Reuters - but perhaps others - MSNBC, FOX - so these people at least would publish your eyewitness reports of shooting by people near or in front of these cameras.

Someone needs all the tape from the time period leading up to the shot. I don't have it, and wouldn't have the technology here to examine it anyway.

The answers to this question are all right there. Several FReepers did carefully, frame by frame, look at the tape from the seconds before the hit, but I don't think any of them ever saw the ten to twenty minutes before that. Both my friend and I happened to be watching the feed during that time period; and we both thought there was firing taking place from in front of the cameras position...including seeing ejected shell casings flying up several times.
