Good teachers are desparately needed. So sorry to hear of your daughter's layoff? The 25,000 layoffs should be administrative staff. I lived in Ventura until several years ago and my best friends were elementary, high school and community college teachers. The problem is more the administrative and support staff and their enormous salaries. This is were the cuts should begin. Also all huge amount of money going for non-English speaking students. For a fact, the teachers salaries and benefits were amazing to me. One friend, the part-time community college lab instructor/monitor made $40 an hour!

One friend, the part-time community college lab instructor/monitor made $40 an hour! That is per credit hour , a 4hr credit course taught 2 hrs twice a week nets 8 times 40 or 160 dollars per week times 18 weeks yields 5760 for the full semester. Of course you must prepare and grade tests do some paperwork, handle special students etc. Its about minimum wage for actual hours worked for me! I teach remedial math at local Community colleges!
But I like doing it, nice supplement to retirement pay!
